Priscilla Wambui: Women’s Economic Empowerment in Action
In the heart of Nyandarua County, Kenya, Priscilla Wambui is driving agricultural transformation through her venture, Precious Weru Farmers’ Hub. A dedicated entrepreneur, Priscilla has successfully bridged the gap between farmers and quality agricultural inputs, empowering her community through knowledge, accessibility, and sustainable farming practices.
Priscilla’s journey began in 2018 when she leveraged her business administration training to establish a small farm supply shop in Kirima Ngai Location, Ol Jorok Sub-County. She recognized the challenges local farmers faced in accessing quality farm inputs, as the nearest alternative was 5 km away in Kasuku market.
Impact & Growth
- 350+ farmers supplied with certified potato seeds and essential farm products.
- Increased accessibility to quality inputs, reducing farmers’ reliance on distant markets.
- Climate-smart agriculture training, equipping farmers with modern techniques for sustainable farming.
- Partnership with an independent spraying service provider, ensuring effective and safe crop protection.
- Leased 9 additional acres to expand farming operations and reach more farmers.
Understanding the need for better solutions, Priscilla expanded her business in 2021 with support from the Seeds2B team, setting up a potato seed nursery on her 3-acre farm. This move positioned her as a key supplier of certified, clean potato seeds and other farm inputs, significantly reducing the burden on local farmers while improving their productivity.
Priscilla’s impact goes beyond providing farm inputs—she is committed to training farmers in climate-smart agricultural practices, ensuring they can adapt to the changing weather conditions and environmental challenges.
To further support the farming community, she collaborates with a trained and independent spraying service provider, ensuring farmers can protect their crops effectively and safely. This not only enhances crop yields but also promotes sustainable farming practices that benefit both farmers and their families.
With the success of her potato seed nursery and farm supply business, Priscilla has been able to lease an additional 9 acres, expanding her agricultural activities and strengthening her ability to serve more farmers.
Priscilla’s next big goal is to venture into logistics, addressing a major challenge for smallholder farmers—market access and efficient distribution. By developing logistics solutions, she aims to help farmers transport their produce efficiently, further improving their profitability and sustainability.
Her journey is a testament to the power of women-led agribusiness, proving that with the right support, innovation, and determination, rural communities can thrive.
